  1. Great reed for Shepherd MK3

Posted by Tony on 23rd May 2024

I had been struggling to find a good reed for my Shepherd, MK3 chanter and was told to try and Higgins reed. Since I received this reed, it’s been quite a pleasure playing it.

  2. My go-to reed

Posted by Kilty McBride on 20th Nov 2023

Always a crisp crow and a good player. My pipes are set up for dry reed playing and the Higgins reed always settles in nicely. As a solo piper, I need reeds I can depend on to tune in quickly and stay while waiting around to play.

  3. reliable reeds

Posted by Dan on 13th Apr 2023

Our band has used Higgins chanter reeds exclusively since founding in 2000. They reliably provide bright, steady tone over a variety of blowing strengths and playing skills.

  4. Great reeds

Really solid reeds. I got east reeds. They come in around 30.

  5. Best Pipe Reeds in US

Posted by Unknown on 12th Jan 2023

Reeds are very responsive and of excellent quality

  6. Stable Reed

Posted by Unknown on 29th Aug 2022

This reed is reliable and very stable. No fluctuations with this reed!

  7. Higgins easy reeds

Posted by Thomas Johnston on 8th Aug 2022

I ordered 6 Higgins easy reeds. Three of these reeds were so strong I could not blow them. Only 1 Reed could be considered an easy Reed. Very disappointing. (John's reply: Sorry to hear this. We test these and will be happy to take a look at them if you'd like to return).

  8. Stable Reed

Posted by Robert Andrews on 7th Aug 2022

This reed never fails. It is good for band and solo playing. The pitch is always stable. I’ve tried them all and in my opinion Higgins reeds are the best for stability and tone quality.

  9. Great Reed

Posted by Terry on 8th May 2022

Because I have gotten older, this “easy” reed is perfect for me. I had to make very little adjustments to my chanter.

  10. Consistently good reeds

Posted by Unknown on 6th Mar 2022

Our band had good success with Higgins reeds. So when it was time to order new solo reeds, I thought I'd try Higgins. Playing in both David Naill ABW and CE Kron ABW chanters. Very impressed. Top hand quite good, very little tape.
