Product Description

Our Fly Plaid is fringed and gathered at one end. It measures 36" x 36". Some rare tartans will measure only 30" x 36". This is a CUSTOM product. You MUST tell us if you're matching a kilt due to dye lot differences in the various mills. Delivery approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

The plaid originates from the historic Great Kilt worn by a highlander.

The tartan fabric would serve both as a blanket and bedding to sleep with, and also as clothing to wear during the day. The tartan was wrapped around the waist and folded in a "pleat-like" style which was held in place by a belt. The material that was left over from the waist was then thrown over the left shoulder.

Today, we honor this historic garment by wearing a plaid of matching tartan which is held in place by a decorative brooch.

Fine workmanship and material

As always, J. Higgins provided excellent advice to make sure the tartan pattern and dye lot would match a kilt purchased from them about 1-1/2 years ago. Looks great and adds a nice flair to the ensemble.

Higgins and Co, did an alteration on a kilt for me years ago. I finally decided to add a fly to my kit, and Higgins did a great job. Faster service than I expected and the fly is the best. Matches my kilt exactly!!

I placed an order for a custom kilt, and then two weeks later wanted to order a custom ply plaid along with it. Reasonably, the plaid arrived before the kilt and was in top-quality.

I have three fly plaids and this one is by far the best. It is a lighter weight than my kilt. This lighter weight makes it much easier to wear. The smaller size helps this as well. I'm very pleased.

I received my family tartan kilt, tartan sock flashes, tartan bow tie, and plaid!
I was very pleased the plaid had the corner sewn to lay on my shoulder perfectly. Tucking it under my shoulder braid and pining it to my jacket, makes me look quite lordly!
