J. Higgins Value Kilt Poly/Viscous Tartans

Product Description

Our J.Higgins Value Kilt is perfect for our value minded customers and made by our own kilt makers here in Kansas City since 1983. The value kilt is made with less yardage than our traditional kilts and have fewer and wider pleats as well. Every value kilt is made with authentic tartans using a poly/viscous material with 3 buckles/straps and 2 belt loops for your belt. We fringe the front apron as well. We do not put lining in the Value kilt. We do put hems in these when we feel the mill selvedge is too wavy. Matching flashes are also available here:

This is a custom garment that cannot be returned. Because we make these value kilts to order, please know that delivery is approximately 8 to 10 weeks. This is a general estimate.

Use only a cloth tape measure when taking kilt measurements. Do not use rulers, or metal tape measures. However, we can copy a current total length if you have an existing kilt already. Please mention this in the comments section of your order. Check out our video and measurement guide below for helpful suggestions on how to measure for your kilt:

Pricing will change depending on sizes submitted and amount of material needed for the individual. Price ranges are as follows:

4 yards:  Hips up to 37" $149.95

5 yards: Hips 38 to 47" $169.95

6 yards: Hips 48 to 55" $199.95

7 yards: Hips 56" to 64" $209.95

8 yards: Hips 65 to 70" $219.95

There are two ways to pleat your kilt in the back. You can either pleat it to the sett so the tartan is shown front and back in the same way, or pleat it to the line so that we choose one line to emphasize which then makes the pleating pattern look completely different than the front. Some tartans don't lend themselves to pleating to the line. We show you an example of both in the photos below using the Royal Stewart tartan. If you're in doubt, we strongly suggest you pleat to the sett as pleating to the line can make a stark difference. First time kilt wearers should maybe avoid pleating to the line.

Very nice kilt, especially for the price. Like the reinforcements where buckle straps go through. Love the way the front apran fits. They contacted me on a measurement question. Also, came in abiut 3 weeks earlier than expected. I would order another.

Griffin was terrific help with measurements, as this kelt fits just right. The fabric looks great without being too heavy. The loops and buckle details are well done too. We're a happy kilter here!!

A fine kilt for the price. They warned me that one measurement was off for my height so I bowed to their expertise and was glad I did. I like the material and the fit. It is the second value kilt I have bought from them.

  6. garbage!

Posted by Unknown on 13th Jan 2020

The stitching on this kilt was horrible. I thought it was a joke when I opened it. Still no explanation as to why it was so bad. I got a refund, but I had to pay return shipping. Terrible product, and worse costumer service!! (John's reply: Sir, I won't say your name, but I am very familiar with your order, as I have replied within the day to each of your prior emails, and you to mine. Your recollection of the conversations differs substantially from mine, as this is not how I treat my customers. As mentioned in my last email, I encouraged you to send back the Value kilt for a full refund if you were not happy with the quality of our products. You have done so, and you acknowledge we have refunded your money for the kilt and shipping. This will conclude our dealings and I wish you all the best as we say our farewell to you. John Higgins)

This kilt was very well done. It fit perfectly at the second notches of the straps. The straps are good quality and well attached. The pleats are done properly and are evenly spaced. The material is excellent quality as well. This is an excellent value for the price!

  10. I'm very impressed

Posted by Jon Pipey Moritz on 24th Apr 2018

I have two of these kilts, and I'm ordering a third They are very well made, and fit great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that It is a bit lighter than I would have liked. They would be perfict for warm climates.
