    A very nice doublet

Posted by Duncan MacLeod on 26th Apr 2026

The doublet arrived this week, it is very nice, kudos to Jim. The process of ordering is a little off-putting, though the end product is worthwhile, thus the 4 stars instead of 5. You are asked to take a lot of measurements, and they even sent me two trial jackets to try on and take pictures of the fit. This was helpful, because the jacket sizes don’t align well with standard suit sizes…trust JHiggins on their recommendations here. When I called back to check in on the information I had sent back regarding fit, the salesperson who I spoke to was not keen to hear any details about alterations that would be required to make the fit perfect. The strong impression I got after that conversation was that, though they cut and piece the doublet, they do so based on standard sizes. The measurements I sent are really for them to dial in on a jacket size, then they put it all together (lots of detail in the braid, so no small task). I had requested some small adjustments prior to assembly, at the collar and in the chest fit, the salesperson seemed skeptical. Jim called me, and after talking to him I was a bit more hopeful, and indeed, the doublet ended up fitting very well, better than the test fit sent to me. Many thanks on that front. But folks may consider that this well constructed and high quality doublet could still require tailoring after ordered if you need specific alterations for your fit. I was prepared to take mine to a military tailor for adjustments, but it ended up fitting well, so I’ll move straight in to having patches and rank insignia applied. For background, I received my first doublet maybe 6 years ago, a cheap import that was TERRIBLE. I bought a used wool doublet in my size from a local piper and applied flat braid myself , a very tedious task, but the fit was way better. I am confident this doublet will look sharp, clean, and professional when I need to turn out in my full kit.
