Product Description
A cane pipe chanter reed from MG reeds' Rory Grossart. These reeds have found their way into both Gold Medal and Top Grade pipe band competitions. They are an excellent reed and will perform well in most available pipe chanters.

Seems like a good reed......

This reed sounds good when initially played in my Nails wood chanter. The issue is that specific PSI specs. are not an option when ordering. I don't have the time or patience to break in chanter reeds. The easy reed I ordered is closer to 40 PSI than 30PSI. This is a problem.

After trying several other reeds out there and several dollars to go with, I tried the medium MG Reed. This I found to be a very versatile Reed that worked in Dunbar, Sinclair, MaCallum, G-1 and Shepherd chanters. The break in period was minimal but the most impressive features of the reed are the brightness and volume of the Reed. The response of the note was just incredibly pleasant. These reeds we found to tune fairly well with other bands . This is the first Reed that I’ve taken out of the packaging , put in my chanter and play for 10-15 minutes and check the Reed on the tuner and every note be right on and not have to use tape. This is an amazing reed that my whole band has now changed to, it’s a must have for that competition sound you have to have.

Great sound

I just got this so it's only been a few days but right out of the box this reed sounds great in my McCallum solo chanter. I have long hated the D on my chanter but with this reed it sounds a bit better, at least I think? I got the easy, and I would say this reed is on the easier side of easy, as it is coming in when I strike in the drones, but I'm going to work on that because I love how it sounds.

I plugged one of these in this week to give it a try. Nice bright sound and crisp embellishments. I ordered easy for my solo chanter and started out with a rubber band. I quickly discovered I didn't need the band as it was very manageable from the start. I have read that MG is made to be favorable in McCallum chanter and that's what I have it in. I plan to try one in my Shepherd and will give an update.
