Highland Reeds new High Resonance Balance Tone drone reeds have been designed to produce more harmonics than the standard Balance Tone reeds.
They have the distinctive black plugs and feature all the same qualities of the original Balance Tone reeds.

I am simply amazed at the quality of sound produced by these reeds. The tone of my Duncan Soutar pipes is fantastic. The reeds are super air efficient and easy to adjust which only took a little tweaking. Great product.

Very pleased with my Balance Tone HR drone reeds

I've enjoyed playing these reeds for couple weeks now. Their innovative design provides an easy install in my Naill DN4s. Also, their needed adjustments were minimal & very straight forward - And they sound GREAT!
I'll add that Mr Hitchings' prompt email responses were very helpful. Heck with our USA/UK time zone difference, I wonder if the Major ever sleeps!!
Given this positive experience with Mr Hitchings' reeds, I've ordered his blowpipe & drone moisture control systems too.

Balance Tone HR drone reeds

I’ve used Balance Tone reeds off and on for twelve years now depending on what band i’m playing for. I recently plugged these into my Henderson set and instantly remembered why they’re my favorite. They are super easy to adjust on the fly, don’t take too much air and the sound has a lot of layers with solid starts and stops.

I made the switch to 'modern' reeds in the mid 80's and never had a problem with my old Henderson's. I kept upgrading over the years and they continued to sound great with Wygent, EZ's, Cannings, and Kinnairds...until recently. They suddenly got fussy with everything in the drawer, so I thought I'd give BT/HR a try. Wow! The ease of setting them up and adjusting, alone, is worth 5 stars. Then the strike, the tuning, the harmonics, and the air-efficiency are worth another 5 stars. They tune and lock quickly, and pick them up next day they play like you never put them down. I've got another set on order now for a different set of pipes.

I really like these reeds. They are very stable, easy to make adjustments, and less buzzy than regular Balance Tone reeds.

These have greatly improved my son's McCallum bagpipes to sounding better than ever. These eliminate his need for drone corks while tuning.

From the moment I put them on it not only improved the sound but it also made the drones easier to play and the bagpipe easier to be controlled. Just what I needed ! Great product!!

In combination with the valves of the same brands the improvement has been impressive! Much easier to start and stop the drones and has an excellent sound!
